So I get a call from my friend the other day suggesting we should go fishing with our kids! Now I know there is some serious lunkers in Long Lake, and there is many trophies pulled out of this lake, however because it is so LONG of a lake, you need to know the lake a bit or go out with a vetran fisherman to land your quota. Myself, I don’t mind sitting out basking in the sun waiting for the double digit fish (heh shameless plug for my old site doubledigitfishing.com, which needs a SERIOUS MAKEOVER!), because there is nothing like the whirl from a rod when a large northern takes your line and runs with it!

The problem is that 8 year old kids get bored quickly when they are not catching fishies sitting still in a boat is not something that inspires an 8 year old. My friend had this brilliant idea that we should head over the trout farm, which is about 16 minutes away, and land ourself some fish for lunch. I figured that was a brilliant idea, that is like shooting fish in a barrel, and possibly the kids would take to loving fishing as much as I do, and thus my son and I can spend more time together with one of my favorite hobbies!

It was a brilliant idea, one little problem, the Damn trout didn’t get the memo, and decided to go camping. I mean we would have caught more snakes (small Northern Pikes, which are effectionaly called snakes because they are little slimers!) if we would have stayed at long lake and fish!. Do you ever wonder if there is really a true science to fishing, or do some folks just make up stuff, and had a few lucky strikes?

Well today we will stay out of the heat, and the kids will have to be satisfied with Butlers Fish & Chips instead of some farmed trout!

Say hello to Rosie

Jeffrey and Joanne De Sarno run their Regina Beach home with a little help. Not with a housekeeper, or a caregiver – but with Rosie.

Rosie is the name for their SecurTek Home Manager automation system, which can do anything from read Jeffrey yesterday’s baseball scores to help Joanne organize the shopping list.

The system is simple for any customer, as SecurTek sets up the system and then all the homeowner has to do is touch a button and SecurTek can add a component or fix any part of the system. All the homeowner has to do is give the commands – “turn on dining room light” or “read news.”

But Jeffrey De Sarno understands the system a little bit better than the average person – he was part of the team who designed it. He describes the system as a true “mash-up” of technology – meaning it is many components of technology coming together.

Speaking through a microphone in the kitchen, Rosie answered Jeffrey’s questions about time, the stock market, TV listings, and information on the house. She also answered his commands, dimming lightings, turning on and off appliances, reading the news, and playing Tracy Chapman music upon request.

Now I have to admit this exposure for work was fabulous I don’t know if it helped us out in selling our home, as some have suggested that some of this technology maybe overwhelming for some folks. So I haven’t decided if I will leave it with the house. Shrug, I guess it will depend on the new owner. Trust me however Rosie 2.0 will be following me to my new home!! I will work with my friends and Automated Living to build something much bigger!! Yup I am addicted to it!

Regina Beach offers up more than just beach time, it seems to have attracted my wife’s camera to all of the actual Living Skies within Saskatchewan. I never really believed the them that was proposed years ago for Saskatchewan. http://www.livingskies.info/

According to our license plates and Tourism Saskatchewan we were supposed to believe that the skies in Saskatchewan light up similar to those seen in the desert! I have been to Arizona, and it is my opinion now that we have them beat! I had never noticed the sky before we moved to the beach!

Regina Beach is all about the community, which very much has a “family feel” to it. Once you participate within the community it grabs you with open arms, and offers you an array of events that will keep you quite busy, and entertained!

That’s right Joanne and I have decided to make a huge change in our lifestyle, more specific, everyone within the DeSarno home is changing thier lifestyle. Dad whom has lived with us since Jayden was 1, has decided that he wants to branch out and do something else. I can’t blame him, the kids are getting older now, and now with both of them in school all day that has to be a bit boring for him. We truly will miss him as he ventures out on his own (yup kinda feeling like one of my kids are leaving home)!

The home boasts about 4600 square feet of living space, with the basement having the ability to be run as a completed suite. We however believe it can be used for family, similar to how we did it. Our kids would simply wake up in the morning and go downstairs to Grandpa’s before school, however we think that if you want beach life which is only 35 minutes away from Downtown Regina, then you simply could leverage the basement for when guests or family come out for those long extended stays in the summertime.

I love this home, and it was a really difficult decision to make however we think it is the right one and have selected a new house in order for the kids to attend catholic french emersion. We think it is a good move, this means that now that grandpa is moving the kids can still be involved in the catholic school system instead!!

What is unique about this home?

First off it is an engineering marvel, the house has H-Beam construction and then concrete slabs which cover the garage area. This area then becomes the basement storage area, and games room.

It always amazes folks who see it, because your positioned directly under the garage.

I am so frustrated I have been trying to get my deck re-done, and I screwed up. During the Home and Garden Show in Regina I was introduced to a company called Barrier Coatings. The work that they presented would be PERFECT for my deck. They have the ability to place a coating on my deck thus replacing my DuraDeck which didn’t stand up to my stupid shovel tricks this last winter. However when I received a quote from the company, I stupidly thought I could find someone better, and cheaper, and for 1 week I removed myself from thier job list. Well now I am paying for it, as I ended up at the bottom of the list, and it looks like they will not be looking at my deck until the end of August. Oh well, I guess it all has to do with the labour force problem within Saskatchewan, which is the REAL reason I am complaining. I know we are in the middle of an epic boom here in Saskatchewan, but I have to be honest, I don’t feel much like celebrating. Articles such as

just reinforces what several of us in Saskatchewan have been feeling we need people, to come help out with these lost skill sets! However at the same time, a friend of mine suggested maybe it isn’t people that we are missing, maybe it is Talent!!

Whatever it is, my Deck isn’t finished and anytime I want to get something done in Regina it seems I get put on a waiting list, hopefully this doesn’t last too long!

Although I alway intend to blog, and everyone once in a while I get the urge to start over and blog about what is happening around me!

First off I know some folks are going to wonder what the he!! happened to my old blogs, and really I could have converted it, and worked on building up the past information but really I just felt a fresh start might make this fun again.
